Details

The conference brings together prominent national and international scholars to explore the concept of tradition with a particular focus on the philosophical and theological senses of 'Tradition'. Papers will deal with the concept of Sacred Tradition; how Sacred Tradition relates to other aspects of tradition; how traditions guide (or undermine) human behaviour and relationships; and whether tradition is a defensible and valuable concept.

The centrepiece of the Conference will be a Public Debate chaired by Mr Phillip Adams and aired on ABC Radio National. Two major academics and expert media commentators, Professor John Haldane (University of St. Andrews), and Professor Mark Kingwell (University of Toronto), will weigh into the contemporary question: "Religious Traditions: Friends or Foes of Freedom?
