Émilie du Châtelet’s Birthday Party
The Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists is inviting Project Vox to celebrate Émilie du Châtelet’s 314th Birthday – Come and join us!
Andrew Janiak is joining us online from Duke University and will present his new work exploring the philosophical originality of Du Châtelet’s “Institutions”. Andrew Janiak is Professor of Philosophy at Duke University. He is the co-leader of Project Vox – a project aimed at highlighting the work of Early Modern Women Philosophers. He is currently working on a multi-year project on Émilie Du Châtelet’s philosophy and 18th century Newtonian thought in France, together with Prof. Karen Detlefsen (Penn).
Clara Carus (HWPS) will be giving a talk on the Principle of Contradiction in Du Châtelet. In celebration of her birthday the talk is dedicated to the exploration of this important aspect of her work.
