Perspectives: UCD Postgraduate Journal of Philosophy is an annual blind peer-reviewed journal of philosophy edited and published by postgraduate students in the School of Philosophy, University College Dublin, Ireland. Perspectives features articles, symposium and conference papers, book reviews, and interviews by postgraduate students and recent graduates on a broad range of topics and approaches in philosophy and its related disciplines. The journal is published open access online, with printed copies available at little cost.

Call for Submissions

The editorial board of the 2021 issue of Perspectives seeks submissions of high-quality original contributions, from postgraduate students and recent graduates (who received their postgraduate degree within the last three years), on any topic relevant to the theme of Social Philosophy broadly construed. We welcome articles as well as book reviews on recent publications in all areas and approaches to Social Philosophy.

We especially welcome articles on areas and topics that have been marginalised in philosophy and social philosophy. Submissions from academics from underrepresented groups in philosophy are particularly encouraged.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • History of social and political philosophy

  • Contemporary debates in social and political philosophy

  • Social ontology

  • Social epistemology including applied social epistemology

  • Political epistemology

  • Ethics and society

  • Aesthetics and society

  • Critical approaches to social philosophy

  • The connection between science, technology, and society

  • Social philosophy and philosophy of language

  • Theories of justice

  • Intersubjectivity and recognition

  • Social philosophy and feminist and queer theory

  • Social philosophy and (critical) race, postcolonial, decolonial theories

  • Philosophy as social practice 

  • Any other topic that you deem relevant to the subject of social philosophy

Submission Guidelines for Articles

Articles should be between 5,000-8,000 words (including references and bibliography). Please include a brief abstract of around 200 words with five keywords.

Submission Guidelines for Book Reviews

Book reviews should be around 2,500 words or less. The book must be related to the area of social philosophy and must have been published within the last five years or not earlier than 2017. If you have a book that you would like to review, please send a brief statement of interest (no more than 300 words) on the relevance and appropriateness of the book to the theme of this issue. 

All submissions or queries should be emailed to [email protected]. The subject title of your email submission should include ‘Perspectives 2021’ followed by ‘submission’ or ‘review’, as relevant. Please include a separate contributor’s information sheet with your name, institution, degree level, submission title, and permanent email address.
