Even though they are essentially subjective and first-personal, aesthetic judgments at the same time purport to be objectively valid. Kant refers to this tension as the ‘antinomy of taste’. The colloquium addresses this problem by raising questions about the rationality of aesthetic judgments: are there reasons for aesthetic judgments, and if so, how do they relate to epistemic and practical reasons?
