The UMass Amherst Philosophy Department will host a conference in honor of Eileen O’Neill (1953–2017). This conference will take place in-person on April 28–30, 2023 in Amherst, MA. There will be two keynote speakers: Marcy Lascano and Christia Mercer. In addition, we plan to schedule about four submitted papers by early-career scholars with commentaries by senior scholars. We welcome papers on any topic related to Eileen O’Neill’s work, which includes early modern women philosophers, early modern debates about causation (especially occasionalism), and the mind-body problem.
We invite junior scholars to submit abstracts of 750–1,000 words, prepared for anonymous review, by September 1, 2022. Please upload your abstracts to https://forms.gle/kEg5Q8e6XRVwD6aN9
Papers should be about 40 minutes reading time. Selected presenters must submit full versions of their papers no later than March 1, 2023. We expect that we will be able to offer travel funding to presenters who have limited access to travel funding. For questions about the conference, please contact Louise Antony ([email protected]), Ernesto Garcia ([email protected]), or Julia Jorati ([email protected]).
