A symposium in celebration of the life and work of Katherine Hawley will be held at the University of St Andrews on July 7, 2022.
Katherine Hawley was a much loved and respected member of the Philosophy Department at St Andrews, who passed away in 2021. During her 22 years at St Andrews, Katherine established herself as a world-leading scholar in Metaphysics, Philosophy of Science, Epistemology, and Social Philosophy. Katherine is also remembered for her enormous contributions to the profession of philosophy through her generous mentorship, thought-provoking public philosophy, and compassionate academic leadership. The symposium will provide an opportunity for friends and colleagues to remember and honour Katherine’s enormous intellectual and personal contributions to philosophy.
We are currently inviting submissions for presentations on themes from Katherine's work. If you would like to present, pleased send an abstract, prepared for anonymous review and of no more than 500 words, to [email protected] by midday (BST) on May 23, 2022. Abstracts should be suitable for a 40-minute presentation. A separate title sheet should also be attached containing the paper title and the author’s name, any affiliation, and contact information. We hope to notify people of the outcome of their submission by June 6, 2022. The only constraint on content is that papers should clearly engage with some aspect of Katherine’s work. We especially welcome submissions from early career scholars and members of underrepresented groups in philosophy.
Child-care costs incurred by speakers will be covered and some further financial support for travel and accommodation will also be available. We are grateful to receive support from The Mind Association and The Philosophical Quarterly.
We look forward to receiving your abstracts!
