The workshop ‘Wittgenstein and Hegel – Normativity and Rationality’ invites the submission of  abstracts. The workshop will explore Wittgenstein’s and Hegel’s understanding of rules and mind (Geist) in historical, logical and practical dimensions.

The conference will take place at the University of Zagreb (Croatia) on 9-11 September 2024.

Keynote speakers:

Hans-Johann Glock, University of Zurich, Switzerland

Elena Ficara, University of Paderborn, Germany

Workshop series:

This event is part of a workshop series that has already taken place in various cities, including Dresden (2017), Prague (2019), Warsaw (2021), Barcelona (2022) and Vienna (2023).

Host and experience:

The University of Zagreb, our host, has a wealth of experience in organising philosophical events. The city of Zagreb itself is a beautiful venue with a Southeast European atmosphere. It was an important intellectual centre in the 19th century and still retains its Austro-Hungarian character with a touch of Eastern European culture. Zagreb offers quality hospitality at reasonable prices, making the event enjoyable and affordable.

Organising Team:

Alexander Berg, University of Konstanz

Karlo Gardavski, University of Zagreb

Denys Kaidalov, Charles University

Bruna Picas, University of Barcelona

Publications:

We have produced various publications that document our work.

One of them is "Wittgenstein and Hegel: Reevaluation of Difference" by Mácha, Jakub, and Berg, Alexander, published by De Gruyter in 2019 (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1515/9783110572780).

At the workshop, we plan to introduce and discuss another publication with De Gruyter, edited by Alexander Berg and Denys Kaidalov and titled "Wittgenstein and Classical German Philosophy – Logic, Language, Life", coming in 2024.

Furthermore, we intend to capture the further development of the discussions from these events in a subsequent publication with De Gruyter.
