The Normalisation of the Populist Radical Right in Europe:

Political, Legal and Institutional Transformations

The Journal of Law, Society, and Authority (JLSA) invites original research contributions for a peer-reviewed special issue examining the rise and increasing normalisation of the populist radical right in Europe and its implications for European political systems, democratic institutions, law, fundamental rights, and the future of European integration.

The special issue moves beyond analyses focused exclusively on electoral performance or immigration politics. It explores the broader transformation of political competition, democratic institutions, constitutional orders, public policy, fundamental rights, and European integration associated with the growing visibility and institutionalisation of the populist radical right.

Areas of Interest

Contributions may address, but are not limited to:

• Political transformation, electoral politics, party competition, and the mainstreaming of the populist radical right

• European integration, Euroscepticism, EU institutions, sovereignty, and the future of European integration

• Democracy, constitutionalism, the rule of law, judicial independence, separation of powers, and democratic resilience

• Migration, asylum, citizenship, national identity, minority rights, gender and family politics

• Digital platforms, political communication, mobilisation, and political discourse

• European foreign and security policy and EU external action

• Comparative and cross-national perspectives on the populist radical right in Europe

• Transnational and interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary European political, legal, and institutional transformations

The special issue welcomes theoretical, empirical, comparative, doctrinal, socio-legal, and interdisciplinary contributions from political science, European studies, law, international relations, sociology, security studies, public policy, and related fields in the social sciences and humanities.

Both European and non-European scholars are encouraged to contribute, particularly where submissions offer comparative, transnational, or theoretically relevant perspectives.

Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. All contributions will undergo editorial screening and external peer review in accordance with the journal's publication policies.
